Week 2 : Genetic Engineering

I decided to research about genetic engineering. It took me some time to decide what to research because this is my second semester and as such, I have shallow background knowledge in various research fields. I am a little worried about my research staying on the right track. So I need to make a research map to make sure my research is proceeding accordingly.

Genetic engineering is a technology that modifies DNA such as cutting, or editing DNA strands resulting in a new genetic makeup. Products from genetic engineering can be found all around us in crops, plants and animals. Initial forms of genetic engineering are selective breeding and grafting, which are used in the farming industry. There is a contemporary from of genetic engineering technology, recombinant DNA technology. Recombinant DNA technology draws parts of DNA from two different species and combines them together to insert it into a host cell. This technology gives scientists the ability to achieve a customization of traits. I wonder where this would take me.

  1. Are you thinking of writing more a review of the possible avenues of genetic engineering currently available or thinking to focus on a specific utilization of the technology?

    1. Sorry for being late with my reply. Actually, I am still deciding that. I hope I can narrow this down soon as I have been just researching and trying to get a grasp of the field.
