WEEK 4
I started doing my research from this week. Before explaining how I do my research, I would like to mention about the research question, hypothesis, and my prediction. The research question is how much the inputs affect the outputs on YouTube and how long it takes to change one’s algorithmic interactions significantly according to different inputs. The hypothesis is that the outputs are more influenced by arbitrary inputs in the YouTube algorithms as time goes by. If the hypothesis is true, the number of relevant videos as a result would increase during an experiment of each input in the YouTube algorithm.
I am searching the same input for 2 weeks.
I plan to use 4 different inputs for 8 weeks in total. Doing my researching is
simple. Open the YouTube website in Incognito mode and check the 20 videos from
the top before searching. I place my input into the search bar and check the new
20 videos from the top. Record it in a database file and sort them out into different
categories according to their relevance to the input. Just in case, I end up recording
from the moment I open YouTube, so that I have a record to make sure I put the
correct videos into the right database. Also, I don’t watch any videos on this
device because I don’t want to affect the algorithms.
